Traumatic Incident Reduction
“Let people tell their story, tell of their pain. And let others listen. We discovered that in the telling that people begin to experience a healing”. (Desmund Tutu 2000)
Have you or someone you love experienced a traumatic event? Are flashbacks, difficulty sleeping and pain from the event robbing your ability to invest yourself in life?
Beverly James, an accomplished tramatologist, explained that “Trauma occurs when an actual or perceived threat of danger overwhelms a person's usual coping ability." Note that James’ definition rests on the person’s perception of the event and honors their attempts to cope with the traumatic event. During the traumatic event, survivors will react by fighting, fleeing, or freezing in an attempt live through the event. These reactions are necessary to survive, but Post Traumatic Stress Disorder occurs when survivors experience symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, and intense fear when exposed to elements of the traumatic event. Symptoms of PTSD can be crippling and rob the survivor of the opportunity to enjoy their professional, family and spiritual life experiences.
TIR is a safe and compassionate treatment approach for reducing or eliminating the symptoms of PTSD. TIR is built on the assumption that every survivor has the innate ability to heal themselves and that a life without symptoms is possible. During the TIR session, Jason provides a safe and respectful environment in which the survivor is guided through telling their story several times. As the survivor tells their story of survival, the person’s emotional turmoil is released and the memory remains. While the memory remains, the emotional charge of the event is eliminated or significantly diminished and the survivor is able to return to a thriving life.
